MED218 Seeing, Widening the Aperture

Description

"Seeing' is: when you take away the rational mind and remain loose and balanced, then the experience immediately comes to you. Something is unusual. And that is the way to begin to see." Tarthang Tulku, Gesture of Balance, p.131

This class will explore Tarthang Tulku’s discussion of “just seeing” as a way to connect with objects in a different way. Students will be asked to take and share photographs that illustrate and respond to readings in Gesture of Balance, Joy of Being, and other works of Tarthang Rinpoche.

This is not a photography class, but a way to play with the openness of simply seeing by using the lenses available to us. Anyone interested in meditation and exploring experiential exercises with a camera, cell phone, or other image-making device is welcome.

Prerequisite: At least one year of meditation experience.
