MED101 Beginning Meditation: Quieting the Mind

This class will introduce traditional meditation practices, including body movement (Kum Nye Tibetan Yoga), breath awareness, chanting, and visualization, in order to begin to quiet distracting thoughts and movements of mind, opening mind to a clearer experience. Also, there will be some lecture and discussion to help clarify experiences.

The text used will be Hidden Mind of Freedom by Tarthang Tulku. Readings are assigned and encouraged to help support your meditation practice. In addition, a daily meditation practice is encouraged to bring about the transformative experience that you may be seeking.

MED105 Beginning Meditation: Meditation for Healing

Learn tools to deepen relaxation so that the body can heal itself naturally and cultivate positive energy through expanding awareness of feelings, thoughts, and emotions.

This course will focus on practices that offer the healing benefits of meditation. We will explore ways to strengthen the interconnectedness of body and mind; offer tools to deepen relaxation so that the body can heal itself naturally; cultivate positive energy through expanding awareness of feelings, thoughts and emotions. 

For beginners, as well as for anyone who would like more support in establishing a regular practice or in going deeper to connect with our inner healing resources.

MED213 Deepening Understanding Through Meditation

Learn to look directly at the patterns of thought that trap us in tension and frustration. Opening to feeling and working with practices that loosen and relax old strategies of coping, we open to a new way of being. 

Anyone with some meditation experience who wants to deepen their practice is welcome.  Our goal is to deeply relax the body and quiet the mind, by focusing awareness on the energy and joy inherent in the present moment -  right now - letting go of past obsessions and future worries.

MED214 Intermediate Meditation: Unfolding Meditation

Through meditation practice, and observing the arising of thoughts and emotions, we gain inner confidence to handle whatever comes our way. Based on Gesture of Balance this class develops the meaning of meditation as a practice for every moment. It opens understanding to help establish a path of growth that offers true care for self and others in the midst of a troubled world.

MED313 Advanced Meditation: Cultivating Self-Understanding Through Shamatha and Vipashyana

Drawing from his background and training in Nyingma studies and practices in Tibet, Lama Palzang highlights techniques for stabilizing and deepening meditation in order to continually renew one’s commitment to cultivating wisdom on the path.
